Something a Little More Elegant

Hi Friends! I had so much fun making this fall shaker card and I love having thank you cards like this in my stash this time of year. Now before we get in too deep, I want to acknowledge that this might not be everyone’s definition of an “elegant” card. This is way less cutesy than most of the cards I make, so for me it feels that way… so just go with me on this one.

Making the Background

I started making this background panel with a piece of Distress Watercolor Paper smooth side up. The Little Leaves Background Stamp from MFT Stamps has been patiently waiting for me to pull it back out this year and this was the day! I used my Pink and Main Anti Static Powder Tool and Watermark Ink with Simon Says Stamp’s Cream Embossing Powder to stamp the image. I love the softer and warmer look that the cream powder gives to the overall background versus a pure white.

After I heat set the embossing, I put the paper in my splat box and sprayed the paper down with clean water. Then I got out some Distress Spray Stains and Oxide Sprays and went to town layering colors, using a hair dryer to speed up the process between layers. I ended up using:
Spray Stains– Vintage Photo, Antique Linen
Oxide Sprays– Mustard Seed, Abandoned Coral, Spiced Marmalade
Mica Spray Stains– Tarnished Brass, Jack-o-Lantern and Flickering Candle

I trimmed down the dried panel to be 5 in x 3.75 in and used the new MFT Stamps Tall Hello Die-namics to cut the word from the center of the panel.

Here is a quick video of what that process looked like:

Pumpkin Time

I stamped out the pumpkins from the MFT Stamps YUZU Best Witches stamp set twice and colored them in with 3 different Copic blends as shown below. I die cut them out and picked my favorite 3 to add to the card.

E09,E08,YR07 / W3, E42, E30 / YR27, YR24, YR21

Putting it All Together

I added tape runner to the back of the sprayed panel and adhered a piece of plastic stamp packaging to cover the word holes. Then I doubled up some foam tape and cut it in half do it would be thin enough to fit in the space between the letters and the edge of the panel. I created a frame around all 4 edges and added some extra smaller pieces between the letters, both for support and to help all the sequins from bunching up in one area.
I trimmed down a piece of maroon card stock and a piece of printer paper each to be 5.5 in x 4.25. With the sprayed side down, I taped the leafy panel to the printer paper so that it was centered and then tucked it into the corn of my MISTI platform. I added Pawsome Stamps Roasted Coffee Sequin Mix to the open spaces and removed the foam tape backing. With the panel already in the right spot in the MISTI, it was easy to add the maroon card stock to seal up the wells in the perfect place.
The last step was to glue down the 3 pumpkins flat to the panel with liquid glue.

I love this card so much and I hope this inspires you to get working with some really warm and cozy colors. I know that Halloween isn’t for everyone, but hopefully you are at least getting in the mood for fall crafting because its seriously my favorite!
